Community Centers in Brooklyn and Queens
Because Brooklyn is home to New York State’s largest Haitian community, the New York Haitian Earthquake Family Resource Center opened on February 1, 2010 in the New York National Guard Armory at 1579 Bedford Avenue, between Union and Presidents Streets in Brooklyn. This center was created by Governor Paterson, Mayor Bloomberg and the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Alejandro Mayorka, to make sure that New York’s Haitian community is cared for during this time of great need. Also, we compiled a list of additional community centers in Brooklyn and Queens (see below) that provide services (not mental health services) to their Haitian communities. These centers are not covered by any plan networks.
